In combination with a pair of Trivets, the Universal Grate can also be used as a toast holder or to keep your coffee cup warm. This could be considered a good thing, and obviously a neccessary thing since the stove's purpose is to intensify and preserve wood and fire for as long as possible so obviouisly it needs to adapt to its content.

The tent peg option is clever also as a backup option, should you lose a grate and need to improvise as most of us have pegs easily accessible. I was concerned that there may be sharp edges and burred metal from the manufacturing process, but not so, just nice crisp edges.Not sure if it's due to the Titanium or simply the design of the stove, but within probably 5-7 minutes, it was cool enough to fold up and pack in the Bushcraft Essentials case. Having used this type of kitchen quite a bit I have to say I really like them a lot and the BE Bushbox XL is one of the better ones I have tried. The only minor criticism with respect to the product quality is that the stowage of the 2 trivets is insecure and leaves room for improvement but since the BB XL comes in a well-made Cordura bag this is not much of an issue.

In damp conditions it's also harder to keep a fire going in a smaller one; you really have keep an eye on your fire at all times. Assembly is a simple affair, all you do is open the stove apart, drop the 2 internal flaps down inside "which is helped by gravity anyway! Because of it's measurements the XL produces a considerable amount more warmth than the smaller one.Inserted into a special half-height position it can be used as a stand for alcohol burners like the Trangia. The Bushcraft Essentials Bushshbox XL is an extraordinarily efficient portable multi-fuel stove for cooking, heating and barbecue. Upon opening, an ash tray falls down to catch coals and ash, and a grate for air intake falls down over that. The whole design of the Bushboox feels really sturdy and we’ve not encountered any faults in the months we’ve been using it.
