His song writing skills and vision were stellar on his previous cd Velvet, but this album showcases another side to his versatile talent! He channels his inner Prince for his take on ‘Sex On Fire’ which is transformed from a raucous rock track to a dance-fuelled floor filler that is multi-textured and effervescent. Adam Lambert: Absolutely, at the BMG party, I got to see some of the other acts that are signed to the label, which was exciting. It’s dramatic and extravagant in all the right ways, in a way that feels as true to the original as it does to his own sense of showmanship.

Vote up content that is on-topic, within the rules/guidelines, and will likely stay relevant long-term. The actor and playwright Noël Coward wrote the song some 90 years ago about unrequited gay love and the conventions of his time. The idea of a former American Idol contestant releasing a covers album is so on-the-nose that it’s not hard to see why Adam Lambert once openly laughed off the idea. Although he does a great job of adding his own flair to the songs he covers and the standout moments are those where he takes a song in a slightly unexpected and very Adam Lambert direction, he maintains a consistent respect for the original tracks. Metro Weekly 's Sean Maunier wrote, "With a mix of songs that allow him to show off a range and versatility, High Drama highlights Lambert's skill as a curator, a side of himself that he has not really shown off much up until this point.

Few have the power and range of Lambert’s vocals, as evidenced by his recruitment to front Queen, a role he’s tackled with poise. I said to my team, I wish I had new music to put out on the quick side for all of my beautiful fans and the idea for a covers album felt like we could get that done quicker. And Julia Michaels and Ilsey Juber and Freddie Wexler wrote that song, and I actually heard the demo years ago before Pink recorded it.

OFFENBURG, GERMANY - FEBRUARY 25: Adam Lambert performs on stage during the Giovanni Zarrella Show . Two more standout tracks are the atmospheric take on Duran Duran’s ‘Ordinary World’, and a gloriously camp, glam rock version of Bonnie Tyler’s ‘Holding Out for a Hero’. His rendition of Billie Eilish’s “Getting Older” delivers a masterclass in adding layers of emotional depth to a song with simple tweaks to its underlying structure. I think ones that I haven't performed live yet that I know are going to be something are "West Coast" by Lana Del Rey our arrangement of it it's pretty hardcore. His self-styled “glam-rock makeover” of the Bonnie Tyler hit has him belting her lines over thudding bass, injecting the classic earworm with a heavy dose of Lambert. As Lambert sings, "History, it pains me, and it chains me / 'Cause I'm mad about the boy," champions of freedom and acceptance become one, timeless – the best thing about good covers.

Signature tracks from the original artists like Chandelier, West Coast and Sex On Fire come to life this time in a very singular aesthetic, and it screams Adam's song and not cover. It’s exciting, and if our new takes of these wonderful songs can surprise the artists who recorded the originals, then the record’s definitely succeeded. One thing they do have in common is that they are all heavy on raw, often over-the-top emotion, which happens to perfectly suit the energy he brings to the project. In the case of Duran Duran’s “Ordinary World,” things shift entirely in the opposite direction, transforming the song into a piano ballad. Lambert: Yeah, like I said, I think the arts are the biggest tool to push and effect and flip pop culture. As you started to revisit songs by artists like Duran Duran or Sia or whoever, were there things that you noticed about their authenticity?

I think there's so much progress that's been made and you look at the next generation coming up right now and they're way less bothered about sexuality and gender and all these things because they've grown up sort of not having it be some alien concept to them.

Since bursting onto the scene on American Idol in 2009, Adam Lambert has enjoyed both pop stardom and, of course, a successful run fronting legendary rock group Queen on tour since 2011.
