Description

Handcrafted, all botanicals are hand-selected, labels hand-written and each batch named after a special African elephant. Whilst the Elephant London Dry Gin and Elephant Strength Gin share the same fourteen botanicals, including rare African ingredients, to create their distinctive flavour profiles, the latter uses twice the quantity of botanicals and has an ABV of 57%. This herb has a more camphorous flavour, notes of birch twigs, mint and a final palate of pine and black currant.

Although produced in Germany, the gins are an extraordinary tribute to the continent of Africa: in addition to more classic herbs, roots and fruits, African botanicals such as cassis and lion's tail are used. Elephant Dry Gin is distilled in Germany using 14 botanicals that include some rather unusual but fascinating African ingredients like Baobab, the Buchu plant, Devil's Claw and African Wormwood.Legend has it that the bark of the fever tree was first used by the Spanish in the early 1630s where the healing properties of the tree were discovered. The Elephant gin’s nose shows a subtle juniper aroma, with an undertone of mountain pine and other herbaceous notes. Adding tonic elevates the pine and floral notes on the nose as well as the deep earthy and woody characters on the palate. Instead of the hemp string that ties around the London Dry bottles, the Strength Gin features a rope-like string with a charming miniature anchor hanging from it.Once you have subscribed your subscription is active within immediate effect to take advantage of the exclusive offers, discounts and more.

With every bottle sold, Elephant Gin contributes 15% of profits to elephant conservation charities including Big Life Foundation, while with each miniature bottle sold, 15% of profits is donated to Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

When you subscribe to our VIP Club you’ll receive your exclusive surprise bottle in the middle of the month. This transitions seamlessly into a finish of warming ginger, peppery spice and lingering bittersweet citrus. But it is not only the product in the loving packaging that makes the brand Elephant Gin simply likeable: With 15% of the proceeds Elephant Gin supports the Big Life Foundation as well as Space for Elephants and thus also does good for the protection of species of pachyderms in Africa. Macerated in the gin for several months, these wild berries add a richly rounded, lightly sweet and exquisitely fruity bouquet as well as a typical warm red colour to the spirit.

The style gets its name from gin’s use by the Royal Navy in the 19th century, when sailors would test the strength of their spirits by attempting to light gunpowder. Even the quite coherent design of the bottle reflects the love of Africa, the desire for adventure and new discoveries. The design of Elephant Gin’s logo as a stamp is a nod to the letters sent home by the 19th century explorers of Africa, in which they described the botanical discoveries they made. The Gin Guide Review: Alongside the honourable donations to wildlife conservation in Africa, Elephant Gin is a deeply characterful, well-constructed and complex gin, with prominent classic gin characteristics accented gently, but noticeably, with African botanicals.

All of this combines to give Elephant Gin the romantic impression that it wouldn't look out of place on board the HMS Beagle. If you like classic gin like Bombay, Tanquery - you won't be disappointed but probably not amazed either.
