About this deal

But I feel very blessed, very fortunate to have been involved in such an amazing show with a brilliant team of actors and some of the best writers, directors and producers. One of the things I took away from him – more than the factual information – was how they cope with all the grimness. He said humour. He said you'd be surprised when you go down to investigate the situation. You might see some terrible sights but you have to share a joke with your colleagues. The only way to offset the grimness and the bleakness is to laugh, otherwise you go mad. Your perspective of the world will become totally warped. So, throughout the series there has been a lot of humour peppered, which is vital because it's so real.

In his late 30s, Spencer is Boyd's right hand man. Before joining the Cold Case Unit, Spencer worked for the Atomic Energy Constabulary during which time he saw a horrific murder scene. During her journey into the dark and cold night, Sue is forced to confront horrors long forgotten. With all the death, re-animation of corpses, and local history lessons; Sue has to understand these clues by the end of her drive, so she can save herself and her daughter. That was quite a good story for me because it was a very emotional journey as well as trying to solve the case. DISCLOSURE: I listened to the audiobook of Chasing the Dead by Tim Weaver, narrated by Michael Healy, and published by Penguin, via Overdrive. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own personal opinions. You have a very lovely little girl," breathed the voice on the phone. And just like that, Susan Young is drawn into a living nightmare. Chasing the Dead introduces David Raker, a grieving widower who, using the investigative skills honed in his former profession as a reporter, now finds missing people. The book opens with a Coben-esque conundrum - David is tasked with finding the dead son of a friend, who swears she saw him very much alive, walking the streets of London a month or so earlier. So begins Dave’s journey/investigation, which goes from interesting to downright ludicrous.

Tim Weaver writes books so meticulously researched that the reader is educated as well as entertained, enthralled and intrigued * Sunday Times bestselling author of Lying in Wait * Susan Young, the main character of the book, was a hard working person who did everything she could to make a good life for her daughter, Veda. When Susan discovers that her daughter had been kidnapped by, what seemed to be a monster, she dropped everything and set off to look for her. The strange man on the other end of the phone line gave her specific and told her that if she got the police involved he would know, and he would kill Susan’s little bundle of joy right then and there. Susan knew that if she didn’t fallow the rules that this “man” was giving her she would never see Veda again, alive. In the first story I'm very wary and very suspicious of this person because how can you have a cold case unit and effectively have two Detective Superintendents? So automatically there's suspicion. As the series progresses Spencer has a respect for her.

You have a very lovely little girl,” breathed the voice on the phone. And just like that, Susan Young is drawn into a living nightmare. It took me a few chapters to really get into the book, but the storyline is good and I enjoyed it. It starts off like a regular mystery novel, but things begin to get really interesting when blood starts to flow. As the book progresses, supernatural elements start seeping in and it helps round the story out. Two actually. One was in series three, where I had a storyline that involved my family. Normally, apart from Boyd's character, we don't actually delve into peoples' past. In Waking the Dead it's more about the chase but in this particular storyline the case we were working on involved these bodies found in a house that I used to live in as a child and it was all connected to my past and my family. A stranger has kidnapped Sue's daughter, Veda. But he doesn't want her money, only her suffering-and he will kill Veda if Sue doesn't follow his every command. With detailed instructions, the faceless abductor leads Sue into a blinding snowstorm on the longest night of the year, to a place she has not traveled to since childhood. The voice on the other end of the line somehow knows Sue's deepest, most chilling secret-an ominous incident from her past, buried long ago... Having two Detective Superintendents is just not the norm; it's not how it works. But she is vital, she is good at her job and Spencer respects that and because she comes from another unit she brings something else to the table, which is useful – she's not just occupying space.

The writing is beautiful and the plot so cleverly constructed I never guessed any of the twists * Sunday Times bestselling author of Local Girl Missing * MY THOUGHTS: Chasing the Dead by Tim Weaver is an excellent start to a series that I have been reading in a piecemeal manner. We meet David Raker, an investigator into missing persons and a recent widower who has been asked to find a colleagues missing son who disappeared 5 years ago, his body was found in a burnt out car a year ago, but his mother swears she saw him walking across the street within the past few months. It's great when you hear the information from someone who was in the field. They're giving you those firsthand experiences and it gives you something when you do a show like this. One of my favourite stunts was in series four when I had to chase a bus across Hammersmith Bridge. We spent all day filming and I was sprinting full pelt all day. I was completely smashed the next day. Spencer is driven, focused and extremely ambitious. He temporarily moved out of the Cold Case Unit last year following numerous disagreements with Boyd but returned when Boyd needed his help to capture serial killer Linda Cummings. This was my first encounter with the writing of Joe Schreiber, and based on this book there will be more. That’s thanks to people just like you or me, not mercenary Rambos or ex-GIs or special forces,” he added. “They’re actually just a bunch of amazing, young dedicated people.” What I enjoyed most about “Chasing the Dead” was the strong sense of place, the willingness to confront the seedy and unpleasant without wallowing in it and mastery of pace shown in the writing and the plotting.

Finally you make it through the stage. The badly responding controls, utterly tragic framerate, jerky sound and dubious lighting choices haven't defeated you. There's something half-decent about the presentation and design that makes you think "Hey, maybe it will get better". Chasing the Dead is the first book in the extremely popular David Raker series which was published in 2010 and the latest book (10) No One Home is being published in May 2019. It was nice to finish series five and have the whole nation say 'Are you dead or are you alive?' It's very interesting being stopped in the supermarket and someone saying 'Are you dead?' and replying, 'No, I am very much alive actually – not sure about the character though!' It was very surreal! Chasing the Dead is the debut thriller from Tim Weaver, the first in the chilling David Raker series.ABOUT THIS BOOK: It starts out as a sad but hopeless case of mistaken identity. A year after the death of her son Alex, Mary Towne is convinced she's seen him alive - and wants missing persons investigator David Raker to find him. Reluctant at first, but haunted by a loss of his own, Raker eventually agrees. It was my first book by the author and, considering the fact that it was also his debut novel, he got already my full attention- even if I didn't rate it with a full five stars - and I am sure that he will be getting better in the following installments about David Raker, a missing persons investigator. A gripping plot, a creepy atmosphere and a mystic aura over it. At some point though I started to worry that it would turn into a paranormal story, so weird it was! Thanks God, no genre changing. But still, I found the second part of the book a bit too much: there were just TOO MANY life-threatening situations for one person in one book. I am glad that David managed to escape every time he was almost killed, but it started to get on my nerves and the whole "OMG" and "THANKS GOD HE DID IT AGAIN" became less credible. Weaver's books get better each time - tense, complex, written with flair as well as care * Guardian * BELL, τη νέα πολύ επιτυχημένη σειρά, του Tim Weaver, με θέμα υποθέσεις εξαφανισμένων προσώπων. ;-)
